Lawn is a four-piece band from Groningen, Holland. Lawn brings
a yin-yang mix of 'violence' and 'romanticism', trying to marry
loud, angular guitar outbreaks with hushed moments of serenity.
With lyrics that 'tug your heartstrings' as one has once put
rather nicely. Sure, we know this opposites-attract-strategy
has been done before. However, to create intense music, it just
needs to get intensely vigorous AND intensely fragile.
How to stand out from the pack of alternative/post-rock bands?
Well, Lawn really adds their own specific color to this clichéd
black-and-white procedure, using a wide share of instruments
other than the usual (bass)guitar & drums like theremin,
violin, (rhodes) piano, lots of samples and what have you…
In 2003 Lawn has hit the 'The Void' studio run by Pieter Kloos
(soundengineer Motorpsycho) to record a new (this time real
full length) album called 'backspace'. With the guitars still
the pivotal element in Lawn's music, the recent work is growing
to a more diverse and 'song-based' sound. Guest-appearing on
this album are e.g. Anneke van Giersbergen (Gathering) on the
song 'fix' and Carmenkata on the songs 'backspace' and 'frontseat'.
The CD is released by My First Sonny Weismuller Records / Konkurrent
